Eva & Jonathan

Probably my favourite photo of the season… :)

I have learned it the past few years that someone everyone finds something different in the same pictures – so I can only summarize what stands out for me from the wedding photos of Évi and Jonathan. But clearly, there is something special on their faces that I have already seen on the wedding, but I have realized it fully once working with the photos.

Just to follow the “timeline”, and starting with the wedding preparation pictures: I’ve never had such strong “father and son” photos before. Despite (or especially becuase?) I basically didn’t give them any instructions apart from asking the to move in the light, I was impressed by all the intimate moments and little gestures of the Father, and how naturally it was received by the Son. It was kind of a lesson for me: it wasn’t too much, it felt clearly natural, but so clear interpretation of the Father’s and the Son’s role that’s rare to see.

Secondly, and probably the most important, about the couple. Watch out for all their looks and little touches, in the details (and not the “big picture”, the poses or the surroundings): these two love each other, really. How they look at each other is the naive and honest childlike joy. Just look at the photo taken at the beginning of the ceremony, when they finally stood next to each other again.

Normally, we’re not a “fanatic black and white” type of photographer – but if there’s something special in the pictures, it helps to focus on the facial expressions, emotions and the important details… I have spent some time thinking on why the portraits work so well in black and white now – and then I realized this “childlike joy”, and understood everything. :)

We really wish Évi and Jonathan to keep this joy throughout their life – what we can do for now is to give some memories of how they’ve started their marriage. So please have a look at our favourite photos below, and enjoy the slideshow:

Niki & Laci – Love @ Balaton :)

My first idea was not to write a single word, just upload to “werk-photos”, showing ourselves working hard. It should make it clear: we had a good time… :)

We felt like having met the fairy who fulfills our three wishes.

First of all, it had been a long dream of mine to make a photoshoot on a sailboat on the lake Balaton – and now, with the “Kék csillag”, one of the most spectacular sailboats of the lake, we had a special chance for it.

Secondly, I always loved to photograph dancers, and couples loving to dance – if I can convince a couple on an engagement session to dance, I’m always really happy… but now, we didn’t even need to “convince” Niki and Laci. We just showed them the infinite field of poppies, quickly mentioned that they could even dance… and that’s it. :)

For third: it’s always a little gift for us, whenever we can bring a photoshoot to the “Balaton-felvidék”, the spectacular uplands north from the lake Balaton. We are always amazed by the landscape – and now, even this wish of us was fulfilled. :)

After all, we at least need to do our best in the form of a slideshow to our “fairies”, who have been there, lived, loved, enjoyed, danced… and made this afternoon really nice for us. Sit back and enjoy – and of course, now we are keen to see what will the fairy bring for us on the wedding. :)

Évi & Jonathan

I had a very special “assignment” a few weeks ago, which was pretty different from our “regular” engagement sessions. I was invited by Évi and Jonathan to Amsterdam, to the place where they live – and then I was not only there to shoot an engagement session with a couple getting married soon, but something more. It was a rather a “day in the life of” session, showing how they live there. What are the places they love in Amsterdam, the streets where they’re walking, their “everyday” life together.

It was a really exciting and inspiring experience. My own, personal goal was always to show something “behind the curtain” or “under the hood” – the human, the feelings, the relations, which is more than the visible part of life. Obviously it’s difficult, but it is our motivation when photographing weddings and couples, that’s why we do the engagement sessions, or photograph not only the ceremony, but also the preparations, friends and family.

But now, Évi and Jonathan has taken it to a different level. They wanted to make memories of how and where they live in Amsterdam, where their journey has started – whatever changes life may bring later, preserve these memories. And I have really enjoyed it. It was not only about looking for nice backdrops, and taking pictures of a couple walking along the streets and canals of Amsterdam, but also the places we have visited (the restaurant, the café, the streets and corners) had some special, personal meaning or importance.

Of course, many of these personal aspects remain hidden for the viewer of the photos (and even for the photographer), but add some special meaning for them. And that’s also fun: when working on the pictures and the slideshow, we have realized that we’re doing something for Évi & Jonathan, which we ourselves do not understand completely – since we do not have the same feelings and memories about the places we have visited. And it helped me to realize again, that by photography, I’m often giving something to our couples, which really means more (and something else) to them, then myself. Something I will keep in mind during the whole 2015 season… :)

So, Évi & Jonathan, please take your seat, sit back, turn on the music, and enjoy “a day in the life of” the two of You – the slideshow is first and foremost Yours! :)
